Staten Island has the second-highest rate of fatal overdose citywide. There were 152 unintentional drug overdose deaths among Staten Island residents in 2022, for a rate of 38.0 per 100,000 residents. Similar to trends citywide, the majority of overdose deaths among Staten Island residents involved opioids .The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Heath Department) intends to support the expansion of substance use services for up to eight (8) organizations that currently provide services in Staten Island.
