The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture’s Public Art Program is requesting qualifications from professional artists to design perforated steel shade screens for multiple City of Phoenix bus shelters. The shade screen enhancements will be incorporated into bus shelters between Central Avenue and 16th Streets; and Van Buren Street and Buckeye Road. There may be additional opportunities for shade screen features at other city locations. The new bus shelters will increase shade coverage for transit users and promote a more walkable neighborhood, reducing the urban heat impact of exposed vacant lots and hard surfaces. New bus shelters will promote a distinctive identity for the community. The projects offer artists in all media opportunities to work with the community to enhance bus shelters with original artwork and provide additional shade for commuters.
