Description
Scope of Services
The City of Pasadena's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department seeks contractor instructors for classes that enhance the recreational, fitness, enrichment and social offerings to the community. Experience, training and/or education must clearly demonstrate instructor’s competence as a professional with the required knowledge and skills associated with successfully executing contract classes.
+ 2. Requirements
Contract instructors shall be 18 years or older, must provide copies of any certification and/or license if class requires, must complete and pass a background check (LiveScan) administered by a non-city entity. Any related fees are paid directly by the Contract Instructor. Please discuss the requirements with City staff prior to starting this process.
Contractor/provider must demonstrate certifications required or recommended for classes offered such as physical conditioning programs, training; strength training for adults, seniors and youth; flexibility training and nutrition. Required certifications depend on the type of program taught and are determined by the Department. Current AED/CPR/First Aid certifications are also strongly encouraged.
Contractors/providers must be self-starters with proven developmental abilities. Demonstrated leadership and excellent communication skills required. While on City premises, the contractor/provider shall comply with the rules, regulations, and procedures governing the conduct of personnel and the operation of the facility.
Successful proposers are required to attend the first class meeting of all classes advertised in the City recreation guide regardless of the number of actual number of participants enrolled.

Arts & Crafts: Classes taught in this category are at an introductory level through an intermediate level.
Age Level Index: A adult, S senior, Y youth
Calligraphy (A,S,Y) - Introduction to basic calligraphy alphabet and technique, hold and use pen, basic strokes.
Ceramics (A,S,Y) - Work with clay, slip, and glazes. Basic hand building techniques, potter’s wheel, high and low fire clay.
Clay Basic (A,S,Y) - Hand building techniques, potter’s wheel, high and low fire clay.
Cold Porcelain (A,S) - Basics in creating cold porcelain paste to create flowers, figurines, favors.
Drawing Fundamentals (A,S,Y) - Sketch basic forms of a subject, teach the elements and principles of design, line, shape, value, color, contrast; building blocks of drawing and design.
Jewelry Making (A,S,Y) - Basic techniques using various wires, crimping, and design theory.
Knitting & Crochet (A,S,Y) - Introduction to basic knitting and crochet technique, selecting yarn, proper hook and working yarn, patterns, rows, reading patterns.
Mixed Media (A,S,Y) - Using a wide range of texture, color, shape, patterns and various techniques from Japanese Shibori dye; collages, watercolor, drawing mandalas.
Painting (A,S,Y) - Introduction to the essential tools, brush strokes, color, shape and technique.
Photography (A,Y) - Introduction to basic elements of photography, exposure, digital cameras, how to take photos.
Scrapbooking (A,S) - Basics in layouts, colors, embellishments, photo organization, journaling.
Sewing & Quilting (A,S,Y) - Basics in supplies, fabric, thread, seam, pins, and patterns.
Water Color (A,S,Y) - Introduction to the essential tools, brush strokes, color, shape and technique.

Recreation Contract Class instruction is permitted Monday through Saturday, by site hours of operation, and defined by time-slot/age-level categories.*
Instruction shall not occur on observed City holidays.
