HOK Architects Corporation (HOK) has led the planning, design and compliance (PDC) aspects to replace the aging facilities with a new hospital that includes 30 years of maintenance for West Park Healthcare Centre, as part of the WPCH Campus Development team. HOK was identified as the PDC team via a fair, open and transparent procurement process that was led by Infrastructure Ontario nearly 10‐years ago. Given the current health care system capacity pressures, the Ministry of Health has requested that West Park Healthcare Centre assess the feasibility of retaining the Main Building after the newly constructed hospital has opened. An independent feasibility study will examine and understand the implications of maintaining the Main Building on the West Park campus. The study is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. The PDC made up of the architectural team at HOK and various subconsultants have been engaged to conduct a feasibility study of retaining the current main hospital building as requested by the Ministry of Health. The PDC has been engaged with the hospital for almost 10‐years and were responsible for the design specifications and monitoring of the construction of the new hospital. Retaining the current hospital facility will impact the infrastructure, site works and municipal requirements for the new hospital. Given the involvement of the PDC team in the new build, they are best positioned to understand the impact this would have on the new build and any changes required, as well as, the implications for the ongoing infrastructure operations of the current hospital. Retaining a new architectural team would require extensive background work and investigations to ascertain the impact to the new and current facilities resulting in significantly more cost and time
