The District's mission protects public health and the environment through world-class, cost-effective water resource management, leadership and partnership. The District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Accountant II in the Finance Division. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accountant II position will ensure the accuracy of District general ledger, reporting, and related processes are implemented per District policy and procedure. This position will assist as necessary with other accounting duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Compile, prepare, and record journal entries from complex transactions and
data.Perform month-end close procedures and deliverables which include journal entries, reconciliations, and reports in compliance with GAAP and GASB, with minimal supervision.Prepare monthly financial reports, cost center reports, and capital reports reviewing for reasonableness and accuracy, with assistance.Prepare monthly balance sheet accounts with interfund reconciliations.Identify basic errors and opportunities and work to resolve, improve, and prevent future errors or issues with guidance and supervision.Organize and prepare prescribed reports related to assigned accounting function.Work with accounting assistants to research errors or reconciliation discrepancies.Provide departmental managers support through ad hoc reporting and analysis as requested.Work closely with all cost center managers as required.Research and respond to accounting and financial questions, with assistance as needed.Strong interest in process improvement of accounting work processes and procedure documentation. Maintain related accounting records and files.Support year-end closing process and annual audit.Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in accounting or related fieldTwo to three years of job-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceExperience in a progressively responsible accounting role that includes all aspects of general ledger and working in an accounting financial systemKnowledge of and the ability to efficiently work with accounting and financial reporting principles and systems Proficient at managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines under pressureExtensive knowledge of accounting software and processesExperience in extracting financial data from various reporting systems and providing timely explanations to financial inquiriesAbility to process detailed information accuratelyAbility to efficiently utilize analytical skills to review and evaluate informationProficiency in Excel; experience with financial software, Oracle ERP experience desired Supplemental Information: MMSD is committed to equal employment opportunity and to nondiscrimination in all aspects of the employment relationship.
