An opportunity for a concession special use permit will soon be issued to operate the Bolar Flat Marina and Day Use Area on Lake Moomaw in Bath County, Virginia. The recreation area includes a floating dock with slips for 37 boats, 652 square feet store, 2,000 gallon gas tank and pump, two full hookup RV sites for manager's use, double-lane boat ramp, dry storage lot for approximately 40 boats and recreational vehicles, group picnic shelter with restrooms that accommodates 50-60 people, 18 picnic sites near the boat ramp and along the shoreline, 18-site picnic area with a restroom building, and a small fishing pier. Past annual revenues since 2017 ranged from $119,000 to $192,000. Lake Moomaw encompasses 2,530 surface areas and is surrounded by public land. It is known for its two-story sport fishery supporting warm water fish toward the surface and cold-water fish below a depth of 15 feet. A Forest Service campground of more than 140 campsites is nearby. Many campground visitors rely on the Bolar Flat boat ramp, store and gas sales. Prospective applicants are encouraged to conduct a self-guided visit in the fall of 2022. Interested parties should send an email to ronald.lewis2@usda.gov. An on-site tour conducted by the Forest Service for interested parties will be scheduled in November or early December
