This specific mural is intended to acknowledge native Americans from the area and region and recognize the falls at Center Springs as a popular fishing area for local native AmericansThe Town of Manchester, CT seeks proposal for a public art mural project in Center Springs: Local and area artists are invited to submit a proposal for this exciting opportunity to provide a large-scale work of art encompass the Bigelow Brook Convert at Center Springs Pond, 39 Lodge Dr. The Center Springs Pond was once a large fishing ground for Podunk Indians, the Department of Leisure plans to erect a healing circle, Project Nawapon, that will attract residents to come together and converse, provide a safe place for mental, physical and spiritual
healing whilst providing fun and interactive that provides cultural and spiritual imagery and knowledge of the Native Americans that lived in the New England area. The mural is a way where the Town of Manchester can pay homage, respect and history through a beautiful and captivating painting from artists. 1.2. BackgroundThe goal of the Center Springs Native American Mural Project is to beautify and enhance an area increasingly used by the public to engage and generate sufficient stimulation to ignite conversation, foster interaction, create an environment for mental, physical and spiritual healing, to source an educational platform, as well as to acknowledge the Indigenous People that once lived in the New England area. Improvement will be done to create wider visual space for hikers and outdoor enthusiast to see the mural (i.e., removing shrubbery, branches, leaves, etc.) With thousands of people coming to enjoy the Center Springs Park, this mural installation intends to offer visitors an exceptional experience and acts as a final piece to Project Nawapon.The existing convert at Center Springs Park is approximately one third of a mile away from our Main Office. The majority of the way is accessible with the path at the end of our parking lot, but the last 300 feet will be traveled right alongside the brook. The canvas for the mural is located at the end of the brook and the forward-facing concrete wall is approximately 10 feet wide and 12 high but the center opening diameter is about 8 feet thus the total paintable area for the forward-facing slab is about 70 feet. There are two side walls shape like an irregular trapezoid, where the largest height is 12 feet and the shortest is 8 feet. And the longest width is 13 feet and the shortest is 12 feet. In total both sides are equal to 240 feet. So, a total canvas space of 310 feet. 1.3.
