Central Hall Renovation Architectural and Engineering Services

Central Hall is an academic building with two floors of classrooms and offices over a full basement. Central is the current home to the SOU School of Business and the departments of Mathematics, Languages, Humanities and Cultures. The building also contains general campus classrooms. Page 4 of 14 Central Hall was built in 1950 as the campus library and a general classroom building. It served those functions until 1967 when a new library building was constructed nearby. In 1967, Central underwent a major interior renovation that included construction of many new interior partitions and major renovations to the mechanical and electrical systems. The building configuration and systems are substantially unchanged since the 1967 remodel. The Central building footprint has not changed since the original construction with the exception of an exterior elevator that was added in 1981. Central contains approximately 42,000 gross square feet of interior space plus a 13,000 square foot attic that houses mechanical equipment. Central is constructed with cast-in-place concrete exterior walls, floors and interior bearing walls. The roof structure is wood frame. Interior partitions are wood frame with plaster and gypsum finishes. The attic space above the second floor contains HVAC equipment. Basic floor plans are attached to this RFP (Exhibit B). Simple AutoCAD floor plans of the building are also available for the consultant’s use.
