Please read the Details section for information on how to bid on this opportunity Details The mission of the San Francisco Environment Department (SF Environment) is to advance climate protection and enhance the quality of life for all San Franciscans. The 2021 Climate Action Plan provides an implementation framework for this mission to achieve San Francisco’s goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 and our environmental vision—expressed simply as “0-80-100 Roots”. San Francisco must achieve 0 zero waste and 0 zero toxics, take at least 80% of our trips sustainably, and use 100% renewable energy, while reducing consumption. While those goals are about being less harmful to the planet, our Roots goal is about healing the planet by protecting nature’s diversity, planting trees, and promoting soil health to absorb carbon and restore natural systems. SF Environment was created by voter mandate in 1996 and since then has advised local policy makers and provided a range of
programs in Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Alternative Fuel Vehicles, Toxics Reduction, Healthy Ecosystems, Climate Action, and Zero Waste. The pillars of all SF Environment policies and programs are Environmental Justice and Equity. We strive to meet the needs of all San Franciscans and provide in-depth programs to neighborhoods throughout the city. Our overarching goals are to: Advance Racial Equity Promote Healthy Communities and Ecosystems Lead on Climate Action Strengthen Community Resilience Achieve Zero Waste and Zero Toxics Amplify Community Action The values driving this agenda and all SF Environment initiatives include: Credibility: We are a trusted source of information about environmental challenges, drawing on deep expertise to create solutions that make a measurable difference. Innovation: We experiment and prototype to identify the best solutions to address environmental challenges, setting examples for other cities to follow. Collaboration: We understand that working with a range of partners is critical to our success. We are an engaged member of the San Francisco city family and passionately work with business and community stakeholders to advance shared civic goals. Equity: Our initiatives are underpinned by a commitment to inclusiveness and accessibility, benefit all San Francisco residents and businesses and focus on supporting those communities most in need. Impact: We know that the condition of San Francisco’s environment is critically important to the quality of life of all residents, and our programs clearly demonstrate a resilient environment is possible. For more than two decades, SF Environment has lived its values by providing community grants that, while focused on specific environmental issues, have provided a range of co-benefits—creating jobs, enhancing youth after-school activities, providing resources to educators, providing healthy produce to San Francisco families, creating community space, and contributing to the city’s overall resiliency. The next round of grant funding will continue to provide these types of co-benefits. Grant Funding Areas In keeping with its values, SF Environment is releasing grant funds for community-based organizations engaged in activities that will help the city achieve its environmental and climate action goals.
