For over twenty years, skateboarders of all ages and skill levels have used the skate park; however, the skate park no longer meets the needs of the skateboarders and the community. Over time, the skate park has deteriorated and renovations are needed for the poor condition of the cracked concrete, rusted metal, and damaged equipment. These poor conditions along with the size of the skate park, in relation to the number of users, pose a safety risk to the users of the skate park. The Incline Skate Park also has very few beginner features and does not provide enough space or variety for skateboarders to practice and develop their skills. The District has received a grant from Washoe County for the enhancement of the Incline Skate Park. In December of 2022, the Board moved to accept the Washoe County grant in the amount of $250,000. In May of 2023, the Board approved a possible increase to the project budget with the District matching the grant funds. The Board directed staff to release an RFP requesting design-build services for the 30% schematic design for both a $250,000 project, Design #1, as well as a $500,000 project, Design #2. Once these schematic designs and estimates have been developed, the Board will then vote on the project that will best fit the community's needs. Other Details The District is requesting proposals for total project costs of $250,000 and $500,000, which budgets include hard and soft costs. The budgets will include permitting, design, building, demolition, hazardous materials remediation (if required), new construction, site work, underground utilities such as drainage, landscaping, site furnishings and contingencies. Notes The new design must meet Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) design criteria, with specific attention directed toward scenic corridor requirements, Washoe County Planning and Building Department requirements.
