Mudflat Studioin Somerville, Massachusetts, offers classes, workshops, outreach programming, and events focusing on the ceramic arts.Mudflat Studio invites applications for its Year-Long Residency Program. Since 1996, the program has offered a one-year residency position to clay artists. This highly competitive program provides a free private studio space with access to Mudflat’s facility, a monthly materials stipend, a monthly housing stipend, and opportunities to teach and sell work.The residency includes private 90-square-foot studio space; 24/7 access; a monthly stipend of $75 to be applied to clay materials and firing costs; a monthly stipend of up to $800 for housing assistance; paid teaching opportunities; opportunities for retail sales at Open Studio events and at Mudflat Gallery; and a solo exhibition and reception at Mudflat in July to showcase work created during the residency year.Residency requirements include: a one-year commitment from September 1 through August 31; artists are expected to spend a minimum of 20 hours per week in their studio; artists are required to work five hours per week for Mudflat, assisting with technical jobs; two public presentations during the residency (the first, in September, is a slide show of the artist’s work); applicants should have knowledge of a variety of clay techniques and some kiln firing experience, the ability to work independently, and enthusiasm and willingness to be part of an urban community clay center.
