Medical Transcription Services for DHS / DDB

The Department of Health Services (DHS) Disability Determination Bureau (DDB) contract is for medical teledictation and transcription services. DDB is primarily funded by the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the State of Wisconsin. In Federal Fiscal Year 2019, the WI DDB adjudicated approximately 63,000 medical disability claims of WI applicants for three programs: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), both SSA funded workloads Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Medical Assistance for the  Disabled (MA). If a claimant’s record contains insufficient medical evidence to determine eligibility for Medicaid and/or Social Security Administration disability benefits, the claimant must attend a consultative examination. To promote timely service to disability claimants DDB offers transcription services to physicians and psychologists who perform these consultative examinations at our request. DDB also offers free transcription to physicians and mental health providers who report occasionally to the DDB on the status of their own patients to facilitate our decision-making process.
The transcription service provider will work to transcribe physicians’ reports and return them to the physician for review either electronically or via first class mail. Secure electronic transmission of completed work is also submitted to the DDB dictators, and/or to the Social Security Administration's Electronic Medical Evidence (EME)
