The

improvements generally consist of replacement of an existing deteriorated arched corrugated metal culvert which runs in the southerly direction under Chapel Avenue, providing scour and erosion protection improvements adjacent to the culvert, updating stormwater conveyance infrastructure between Hastings Road and Douglas Drive and improving the roadway pavement and grading within the project limits on Chapel Avenue. The condition of the existing roadway and culvert have been monitored over time and the frequency of sinkhole development has increased, prompting continual repairs of the roadway over the culvert. The presence of sinkholes and differential settlement of the subsoil continually impact the adjacent drainage inlets, curb, sidewalk, and roadway which is in severely deteriorating condition. The project consists of the following improvements; removal of the existing culvert and replacing with sixty (60) linear feet of double-cell, 7 foot span and 4 foot rise four-sided box culvert, construction of headwalls, installation of buried steel piling cut-off walls (5 feet deep), construction of reno-mattress scour protection within the entrance and exit channel of the culvert, construction of stone-filled gabion basket slope stabilization along the banks of the channel, removal, replacement and/or relocation of fencing and landscaping within the disturbed areas near the culvert, removal, replacement, addition and/or reconstruction of inlets on the roadway, removal and replacement of approximately 150 linear feet of reinforced concrete pipe, installation of a new 10 foot by 10 foot drainage structure with new connections between the stormwater conveyance and headwall, reconstruction of the roadway within proximity of the culvert replacement (~450 SY) and a 2” mill and overlay within the remaining area of Chapel Avenue between Hastings Road and Douglas Drive (~750 SY), replacement of curb and sidewalk, as well as other related miscellaneous improvements .
