Painter Diversity Initiative project objective is to design and construct an integrated set of Painter Hall (PAI) exterior and interior renovations/memorials, to include a gallery space that recognizes and honors the historical significance of Heman Sweatt’s successful struggle to achieve admission to the UT Law School. The gallery space will contain a modern digital exhibit that places in context the importance of the Sweatt v. Painter Supreme Court case. The result should be an accounting of events and decisions that recognize Sweatt and Painter in a connected story as a precursor to Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. The site of the project is Painter Hall (PAI), a building occupied by the College of Natural
