NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) is interested in gathering data to identify a price estimate, anticipated delivery schedule, and general company capabilities for possible procurement of a turn-key, pilot plant scale, vacuum induction, close-coupled die gas atomization system for production of non-reactive metal alloy powders, hereafter referred to as the "atomization system." The atomization system shall be installed at NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland Ohio, and shall be capable of melting and atomizing Fe-, Ni-, Co-, and Cu-based alloys and other non-reactive metals with a melt charge capacity of 20 - 50 kg. The resulting powders will be used in additive manufacturing processes, such as direct metal laser sintering, as well as other general powder metal processes. Therefore, the "atomization system," shall be capable of producing the above mentioned alloys in a D50 powder size in the range of 10 - 60 microns. The attached document defines the functional requirements for the
atomization system, and is not intended to provide detailed technical specifications. However, the functional requirements stated herein are considered a baseline from which technical specifications will be derived, pending additional input received based on this Request For Information (RFI). This RFI is intended to solicit responses from potential manufacturers. The responses to this RFI will be used for planning purposes and for the possible generation of a detailed solicitation. This RFI is not a solicitation and NASA is not requesting proposals at this time. All information gathered as a part of this request will be used for Market Research purposes only at this time. The issuance of this RFI does not commit NASA/GRC to pay any proposal preparation costs or obligate NASA/GRC to procure or contract for these services or supplies, nor should it be construed as authorization to proceed with, or be paid for any charges incurred by, performing any of the work described herein. Please submit any questions to this RFI to the following email address: matthew.m.schoewe@nasa.govContact Information: Ian C.
