Water Utility SuperintendentCity of Port Washington, WIWater Utility Superintendent – The City of Port Washington, WI, population 12,307, is accepting applications for the position of Water Utility Superintendent.  This supervisory position is responsible for the operation of the City’s four MGD surface water filtration plant, three elevated storage tanks, a 55+ mile distribution system, and over 5,000 metered customers.   The Water Utility Superintendent supervises a staff of four full-time plant operators and five additional employees who perform maintenance duties at the plant, pump stations, towers, and distribution system as well as serve as relief operators inside the plant.  This position works closely with the Street Commissioner and reports to the Director of Public Works.   The ideal candidate for this position has excellent verbal and written communication skills, possesses strong interpersonal skills, can plan and manage multiple operations, provide leadership, display
initiative, and exercise good judgment.   This position is on-call 24 hours/day, seven days/week, and is responsible to be on site as required for all emergency situations including water main or service breaks. Issues, Challenges, and Opportunities:  This position will lead the Water Utility forward as it undertakes a $15 million plant improvement project adding UV treatment, emergency power supply and with other electrical upgrades, and meeting current DNR requirements for pump and clear well elevations.  The successful candidate will also guide the Water Utility toward compliance with upcoming lead abatement requirements within the distribution system including lead service pipe replacement.   Full conversion to an automated radio read system of water meters is also an immediate goal for the next Water Utility Superintendent.  Position requirements:  Must hold a Surface Water Grade 1 and Distribution Grade 1 Operator’s Certificate issued by the State of Wisconsin.   Minimum of four years of municipal operations and maintenance experience required.   Supervisory experience preferred.  An Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or advanced degree in water science or related field is preferred.  Salary Range:  $72,916 - $91,701; placement within this range is dependent upon qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.  The City of Port Washington offers an excellent benefits package including Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) Retirement, 457 Deferred Compensation, Health Insurance, Health Reimbursement Account, Dental, General Leave, Holidays, Life Insurance, and Flexible Spending.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  Applications will be reviewed beginning on January 24, 2022.  Please provide a cover letter, resume, and City application.
