Request for Public Comment Cordova Airport Runway Rehabilitation NFAPT00654 Cordova Airport Fence Installation NFAPT00664 The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is proposing to improve the Merle K. (Mudhole) Smith Airport (Cordova Airport) through two separate projects to meet current FAA standards and ensure safe and reliable use of the Cordova Airport. The purpose of these projects is to: Upgrade existing aviation facilities to meet current FAA standards. Ensure safe and reliable use of the Cordova Airport Decrease wildlife hazards. Reduce the chances of unauthorized access. Meet transportation security requirements.The rehabilitation project is anticipated to rehabilitate the runway, taxiways, and safety areas, replace navigational aids, lighting and improve drainage. The fencing project is anticipated to construct a new perimeter fence, construct a gravel embankment to serve as the
fence foundation and maintenance road, and improve drainage. The projects are being planned together to maximize efficiency for responding agencies and the public and because both projects could occur concurrently.
