The City of Glendale strives to strengthen the relationship between people and our shared spaces by investing in meaningful public art for our community and visitors alike. With this project, the goal is to artistically commemorate the history of Thunderbird Field. The site of the former Thunderbird Field was recently developed as a new housing development. In order to commemorate the historical significance of the land, the city has identified a site for a new public art project. The area is located on N. 55th Avenue Acoma Drive. The project site is located on the public right-of-way, adjacent to the housing community perimeter wall along 55th Avenue The city envisions artwork that will be limited to a maximum area of 16ft by 16ft, forming a point of interest and pausefor pedestrians along 55th avenue. Potential design would consider a contemplation space that celebrates the rich history of Thunderbird Field.
